Anna Weyant: The Guitar Man
This poster featuring The Return of The Girls Next Door (2022–23) was produced in 2023, in conjunction with the exhibition Anna Weyant: The Guitar Man at Gagosian, rue de Castiglione, Paris. Named for a song by Los Angeles soft-rock band Bread, the artist’s European solo debut included new figure and still-life paintings inspired by classics of American pop culture such as The Addams Family, Clue, Looney Tunes, and Playboy. The Guitar Man also saw Weyant build on the motif of the dollhouse within and alongside images that undercut their subjects’ attempted composure with conscious awkwardness. The Return of The Girls Next Door highlights the artist’s distinctive chiaroscuro, which lends her figures an air of mystery.
