Pablo Picasso: Experiments in Linogravure

Pablo Picasso: Experiments in Linogravure

This poster featuring Faunes et chèvre (1959) was produced in 2010, in conjunction with Pablo Picasso: Experiments in Linogravure at Gagosian, Merlin Street, Athens. The eight-color linocut shows fauns and goats dancing to the music of a flute beneath a bright blue sky punctuated by rolling clouds. The exhibition focused on linocuts made between 1959 and 1963, when Picasso was collaborating with local printer Hidalgo Arnéra in the South of France. At the beginning of this period, he developed a simplified technique that involved progressively recutting the same linoleum block and reprinting with it rather than using a separate block for each color.
