Christopher Wool

This signed collector’s edition of Taschen’s comprehensive monograph on Christopher Wool provides an overview of his career, beginning with the allover abstract compositions he produced in the mid-1980s and the deadpan stenciled word paintings he became known for later in the decade. It also surveys more recent works that he created by applying layer upon layer of whites and off-whites over screen-printed elements used in previous paintings—monochrome shapes taken from reproductions and enlarged details of photographs—as well as the artist’s work in photography and computer graphics.

Limited to a thousand copies, the trilingual (English/French/German) book features production Polaroids and the artist’s installation photography alongside large-scale color illustrations. It was edited by Hans Werner Holzwarth—who has previously collaborated on several catalogues and artist’s books with Wool—and includes texts by Eric Banks, Ann Goldstein, Richard Hell, Jim Lewis, Glenn O’Brien, and Anne Pontégnie.
